LAY LEADERSHIP

LAY LEADERS

Barbara Zinck and Heather Kraus are the lay representatives of the laity (i.e. non clergy) of Severna Park United Methodist Church.  They  seek to foster awareness of the role of laity within the congregation and through their ministries in the home, workplace, community and world.  They meet regularly with the pastors to discuss the state of the church and the needs for ministry.  They are a member of the Church Council, the Staff Parish Relations Committee, Finance Committee and Worship Committee.  They assist in the conduct of worship services and manage the lay reader program.

LAY READERS

A Lay Reader is willing to serve God and Severna Park United Methodist Church’s congregation by reading God’s Word as a vital part of our Sunday worship.  In addition to reading the Scripture from the pulpit during a Sunday morning service, the Lay Reader also reads the Invitation to Offering and collects the offering plates during the Doxology.  The volunteers who are willing to serve as Lay Readers are included in a schedule with an opportunity to serve once or twice a year at the 9:15 or 11 am services. There are also opportunities to serve at the 8 am service.  Instructions and a mentor are provided.
