Marriage Takes Three

I once thought marriage took
Just two to make a go,

But now I am convinced
It takes the Lord also.
And not one marriage fails
Where Christ is asked to enter,

As lovers come together
With Jesus at the center.
But marriage seldom thrives,
And homes are incomplete,

Till He is welcomed there
To help avoid defeat.

In homes where Christ is first,
It's obvious to see,
Those unions really work,

For marriage still takes three.

The United Methodist Church affirm the sanctity of the marriage covenant which is expressed in love, mutual support, personal commitment, and shared fidelity between a man and a woman. We believe that God's blessing rests upon such marriage, whether or not there are children of the union. We reject social norms that assume different standards for women than for men in marriage.

We are pleased that God has brought you to Severna Park United Methodist Church and that this will be the place where you will be sharing your vows of holy matrimony.

We pray that your wedding will be a witness to God’s glory and will reflect your sincere desire to be an obedient disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that a wedding is not only a union between a man and a woman, but even more, is an act of worship.  As such, your wedding is both a joyful and solemn occasion. We want you to be prepared spiritually for the event. 

We hope to provide you with a ceremony that is joyful, reverent, and memorable.  Your wedding service will be consistent with the ritual of the United Methodist Church, conducted by one of our ministers in consultation with you.  In addition, every couple will enjoy a time of pre-marital counseling with our clergy.  We'll do all we can to assure your wedding day and your life together are everything you hope they will be.

We have a wedding booklet and Wedding Coordinators that will help you plan your wedding here at Severna Park United Methodist Church.  Weddings are performed for members of Severna Park United Methodist Church only.
