Lent is the season during the church year in which we mindfully prepare to be Disciples of Christ. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday with a time of repentance and concludes on Easter Sunday celebrating Christ’ resurrection. At Severna Park UMC we have several ways that your family can grow in faith together during lent. This Lent we will focus on Simon Peter, a flawed but faithful disciple, throughout worship and in numerous studies.
Simon Peter & Pancakes
Children kindergarten through 5grade are invited to join us as we learn about Simon Peter while making and eating pancakes on Tuesday, March 5th 9:00-11:00 AM (AACPS closed for conferences). Youth helpers welcome! Sign Up Online.
Ash Wednesday Worship
This multisensory service is Wednesday, March 6 at 12noon & 7pm. At 7pm nursery care will be available for babies and toddlers. Children are encouraged to go to worship where they will have an opportunity to confess in some tangible way (such as placing a rock at the foot of a cross or writing a confession on paper and placing the paper in a fire pit) and receive ashes. Children are often more comfortable with the idea of confession as they are frequently in the position to apologize for their mistakes. So this is a great way for children to connect their normal apologies with confessing to God. If you are unable to attend worship that day, stop by the church and receive ashes throughout the day (6:30am-4pm). Also a home Ash Wednesday service is attached for you to use as a family.
Palm Sunday Worship
Sunday, April 14 at all three services there will be a procession with palms. Please have your children checked into Sunday School prior to 9:30 or 11:00 so we can parade with palms during the beginning of the service.
Holy week is a wonderful time to spend time as a family growing in faith. Attached you will find a Family Holy Week Devotions for you and your family. Take 15 minutes each day during this one week to prepare for Jesus’ resurrection.
Maundy Thursday Worship
On Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 we will celebrate the Last Supper in worship. Nursery care will be available for babies and toddlers. This is a great multisensory service for the entire family that includes communion and hand/foot washing.
Good Friday Worship
On Friday, April 19 at 7:30pm we will remember Jesus death through worship. Nursery care will be available for children. Come and learn about the final moments of Christ’ life and his death on the cross. This is traditionally a somber service. Child care will be open to all children, however, this is an important part of the Easter story and helps children understand the excitement that follows on Easter so are encouraged to attend worship.
On Saturday, April 20 from 9-11am, join us for games, crafts, and treats. An egg hunt will happen at 10am. Please bring a basket. If it is rainy all activities will be inside. If it is sunny the egg hunt will be outside but crafts will be inside. If you would like to help hide eggs Saturday morning at 8am, please let Erica Benjamin know.
Easter Sunday Worship
is Sunday, April 21 at 6:30, 8, 9:30, and 11am. The morning begins with a sunrise service in the memorial garden followed by a breakfast. There will be nursery and preschool Sunday School classes that morning at 8:00 and 9:30 as usual. A family worship service will be held at 9:30 in Fellowship Hall concurrent with worship in the sanctuary. This service will be designed with school aged children and their families in mind. At 11am we will have nursery care for children 5 and younger.
