Staying Safe & Smart

“When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.”

In this time of spreading coronavirus, we are all called to continue loving one another as Christ has loved us, by doing no harm, doing good, and staying in love with God. Following the leadership of our bishop, all United Methodist Churches in Maryland and Washington, DC are suspending gatherings for the next two weeks. Read more from Bishop Easterling here.

Closed for Now

Here at Severna Park UMC, we are honoring this request and the health of our community by closing the building and office through Sunday, April 26. During this time, all worship, Sunday school, and other activities are cancelled.

Worship Online

Each Sunday while we are closed, we will gather together at 10am for music, prayer, and preaching through our Facebook page. You do not need to have a Facebook account to watch this live-streaming video, but those who are logged in will be able to interact with the pastors during worship by sharing prayers and more.

Stay Connected

We want to hear from you! Your pastors are eager to talk and pray with you, even though we will not be in the office. We would love for you to reach out to us via email or by calling our cell phones directly:

  • Rev. Ron – email – 240.672.1321
  • Rev. Carissa – email – 301.642.9729
  • Rev. Byron – email – 443.924.4669
  • Rev. Lee – email – 410.562.9811

Stay in the Loop: Make sure you stay connected with our church throughout this time, so you hear about all the ways in which we are supporting one another. We are developing more opportunities to gather together virtually, so we can continue to connect through online Bible study, music, and more – don’t miss out!

Fund SPUMC’s Ministries

We recognize the financial impact that these weeks will have on our congregation and the people who serve, and so we invite all our members to use online and text-to-give options to continue supporting the work of our church. To learn more about how these options work, read about all of your giving options here.

When We Return: we will continue to care for one another by taking up these practices:

  • Please share the Peace of Christ with a smile or hand over your heart.
  • Communion will be served with pre-cut bread and individual cups by servers who will be wearing gloves.
  • The pastors will continue to greet worshipers after the service but will not be shaking hands. (Promise, we still love you!)
  • We will no longer pass the offering plates through the Sanctuary. Instead, worshipers will have a chance to bring their offerings, prayer and attendance cards up to the altar or to the plates at the front of each section.
  • Hand sanitizers are available throughout the building for your use. We also ask that you take some extra time washing your hands with soap when you are in the restrooms.
  • Our cleaning staff is doing extra cleaning of all door handles, restrooms and other high-use areas.
  • If you have upper respiratory or flu-like symptoms, we ask that you remain home for the sake of others and your own recovery.
  • If you are not already set up for automatic giving through your bank or online through our website, now might be a good time to do that. You can help to ensure that we will have adequate resources to fund all of our ministries even if you (and others) can’t be here in person each Sunday. We also have a simple Text-2-Give option that you can use to help support the church. You can explore all of your giving options here.
