ASP is a week of hard work as our teams build wheel chair ramps, repair roofs, hang new siding, install flooring, fix bathrooms, paint and so much more. It is also a transformational time of heart work as we learn the stories of these long-time residents who have had to face enormous challenges living in a region with significant economic and educational hardships yet with such grit, grace and strength. More than any ramp that gets built or room that gets re-floored, the real "successes" of this week of service come in the relationships that we form, the understandings that we about the causes and realities of poverty and the faith that is deepened as we put love in action.
Our annual Talent/Service Auction to benefit the 2025 Appalachia Service Project is coming up on March 23. This evening is for everyone (childcare available). There is careful and sometimes raucous bidding on items donated by church members and often local member-owned businesses. Several items will be on display starting two weeks ahead of time, and brochures with donated items come out every week. The winner of each item has one year during which to claim their purchase. ALL PROCEEDS go toward the project itself. If you'd like to donate something -- a meal, baked goods, weekend getaway at your beach house, 4 hours of yard work, etc. -- fill out a form available at the Welcome Desk or in the front hallway.
