Our church has a thriving prison ministry that includes opportunities to teach, mentor and lead spiritual retreats.

We partner with two internationally recognized prison ministry organizations:

Through Good News Global Prison Ministry, we regularly donate cases of Bibles and have individuals teaching Bible classes and mentoring inmates in personalized settings at Jennifer Road Detention Center and the Ordnance Road Correctional Center.

Through Kairos Prison Ministry International, SPUMC members volunteer on interdenominational teams to share the transformational love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to long term incarcerated men and women.  You can participate in any of 8 spiritual retreats per year and, once a month, the weekly prayer & share groups inside the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women (MCIW), Maryland Correctional Institution for Men (MCIJ), and Jessup Correctional Institution (JCI-men) in Jessup, MD.  We also participate in Kairos Outside ministry for women impacted by the incarceration of their loved ones.  You, adults & youth, can also support by making posters of Christian encouragement for the retreats and sign up for 30 minute segments of the Retreats' Prayer Vigils.  Through your Church offerings, we provide financial support to these 2 programs.
