Does the idea of serving others in a hand-on way spark a passion in you?  Are you feeling God calling you to step outside of the places you know well and put your faith into action in a new community?  If so, our Volunteers in Mission (VIM) leader Chip Linehan would like to connect with you and talk about upcoming service opportunities. This year we are sending out teams to:
Camp Occohannock on the Eastern Shore of Virginia (June 5-7)
Costa Rica Mission Projects (August 2-9)
Sager Brown UMCOR Center in Louisiana (Oct. 12-17)
Email Chip to find out more and to get involved.

A Long History of Serving
SPUMC & VIM

Since 1989, dozens of VIM teams have been sent out from SPUMC into communities all over the world.  The church sent its first VIM team to Grenada in April of 1989 to rebuild a local church.  Since then, we’ve served in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, downtown Baltimore, the gulf coast of Mississippi, Zimbabwe, Alaska, Nashville, Alabama, Jamaica, Moscow, South Dakota, Louisiana, Guatemala, Utah, North Carolina, Belize and more.  In many of these communities we’ve worked with locals to build or rebuild churches, schools and homes.  We’ve also invested in Children’s education and Vacation Bible School programs.

At SPUMC, VIM trips are open to anyone who wants to serve God. We work hard to make mission trips affordable to all active participants in the life of the church. Your first trip with VIM will be covered by our church because we believe that when we serve together, God changes lives. If you’d like to get involved, contact Chip to find out more about any of the trips we have planned. We’d love to have you join us! Want to help but can’t travel? Our VIM team sponsors a giant Garage Sale twice a year on the first Saturdays of May and October and we always needs volunteer to make it a success.
