What will your legacy be?
The four great human needs, according to Dr. Stephen Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, are to live, to learn, to love, and to leave a legacy. Each of us wants to be remembered for something special – an untarnished reputation, a life filled with good deeds, a monumental and lasting achievement. We want our accomplishments in this life to be remembered and have meaning beyond our lifetimes. What would you like your legacy to be?

Your Church, Your Legacy
All gifts are from God, the Bible tells us. We are blessed with living in an affluent country with untold opportunities. Most of us have never known poverty or despair. Yet, problems like those exist in our community and in the world. Our church has served the spiritual and physical needs of our community for many years. Our outreach has touched the lives of people locally in Severna Park, Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City, in other states such as Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee and internationally in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Belize and many more. With our help, it will continue to do so for many, many years into the future. This will be our legacy.

SPUMC Permanent Endowment Fund
When you provide a gift or bequest to the Endowment Fund, it will be invested to provide a legacy of support for SPUMC in perpetuity. The disbursement of endowment funds is done annually via a nomination and review process defined by church policies. These disbursements are used to support SPUMC and its missions, enabling your legacy to grow with that of SPUMC.

Outright Giving
When you give a gift now, you have the joy of seeing your donation put to good use. If you itemize on your tax return, you will also receive an income tax deduction. If you give appreciated stock or real estate, you may be able to avoid capital gains tax on the transfer.

Leaving a Bequest
One way to give is with a bequest. Your will or trust can designate that a specific amount be given to SPUMC’s Endowment Fund. Such a gift can take the form of cash, stocks, bonds, etc. A bequest allows you to pass your gift to SPUMC free of federal estate tax.

Other Ways to Give
By designating the SPUMC Endowment Fund as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, you may give the life insurance payout to the Endowment Fund. This can be a creative way of making a significant donation.

If you wish to discuss any of the ways to leave a legacy, you may call the Endowment Committee chair, Dick Morgan, 410-647-6450.

Seeing Your Legacy in Action
The Endowment Fund Committee makes disbursements annually to support various ministries at SPUMC. Thus, you will be able to see your gift in action year after year in support of current needs of SPUMC and the ministries it supports. A gift to Endowment is a gift that keeps on giving!
