ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

SPUMC Nursery School provides a rich educational program in an atmosphere of love, learning, and fun.  Our students learn through firsthand experiences in classrooms of no more than 14 students with one teacher and one assistant.

SPUMCNS earned its nickname, “Snoopy School” in the 1970’s, when the school sign included a picture of a beagle. Throughout its 48 years in operation, the school has earned and maintained a reputation for excellence in preschool education. The program has flourished with the dedication and love of our staff, students, and families. Many former students return as adults to enroll their own children.

Our highly-qualified staff members share a passion for working with preschoolers, and our program provides varied experiences in literature, social studies, art, music, science, math, and faith.  We use the Frog Street curriculum, endorsed by the Maryland State Department of Education, and we strive to instill a love of learning in every child. To foster a supportive community for our students and families, our school sponsors several family activities throughout the year.

Our safe, secure, and beautiful facility provides the perfect atmosphere for students to learn, play, and develop the skills and confidence to prepare them for Kindergarten and beyond.

OUR PROGRAM

CURRICULUM

A Nationally Recognized Early Learning Platform Ensures Top-Tier Learning

We follow The Frog Street™ for Preschool, which provides research-based content and teaching practices to support children’s development and learning. Our teachers integrate diverse skills and knowledge to create an environment where they address concepts in fun and meaningful ways for children through stories, songs, and games.

We respect each child’s ability and pace of understanding. Therefore, all programs will work to meet each child’s individual developmental path, building on their interests and strengths to create a meaningful curriculum that fosters learning and growth. We are intentional with the opportunities offered to children and provide a curriculum and environment that help our students be socially and academically ready for kindergarten.

TEACHERS AND STAFF:

The teachers and assistants on our staff meet the requirements set by the State of Maryland Department of Education. These requirements include education and health requirements for people working with small children. We also provide our staff with continued education in the area of Early Childhood Education. Each staff member also undergoes an extensive background check, CPR and first aid certification.

SAFETY: Enhanced Security and Safety Measures to Keep you Child Safe

We are located behind restricted access controls maintaining the safety of your child throughout the day. Each access point has alarmed door sensors. All staff members providing direct care are certified in CPR and basic first aid.  Our playground is fenced-in and protected from street views to keep your child safe while playing outside. Classrooms are sanitized and cleaned thoroughly throughout the day to promote the comfort and well-being of your child. Additionally, professional cleaning services are performed daily after hours.

ENRICHMENT:

Outdoor/Indoor Play Opportunities

Our playground is located within a shaded 5,000 sqft fenced area allowing children plenty of room to get their wiggles out. It is equipped with age-appropriate equipment including a playhouse, train, jungle gym, slides, teeter totter and more.  We also have a garden where children can explore nature, enjoy an outdoor lesson or go on an egg hunt.

Our indoor play area is available during inclement weather days and promotes physical and gross motor development. Ride-on toys, hula hoops, basketball hoops and indoor play structures encourage their learning through play.

Music and Library

Each month children will go to music class to promote their cognitive development, creativity, and imagination! Our school owns an extensive library of books all available to support your child’s learning. Children will have the opportunity to visit our library and look through books. We even have special guest readers. All enrichments are included in your child’s tuition.

Field Trips

Two field trips are arranged each year. All parents or guardians must transport and accompany your child on the field trip. Field trips are a nominal additional fee.

Parent Group/Family Fun Nights

The Parent Group sponsors four evening special events for families throughout the year.  At the beginning of the year, we will ask for volunteers to sign up as class parents, one for each class.  The Parent Group chair will work with class parents to generate ideas, schedule events, and solicit volunteers and participants.  These events are foundational to our school, helping to build a real sense of community among our families, and are supported and conducted completely by parents.
