Music Ministry

You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger, Your name is great and Your heart is kind,
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing, ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy name,
Sing like never before, O my soul, I’ll worship Your holy name.

(“Ten Thousand Reasons,” Matt Redman)

High caliber music in a variety of styles is central to our worship life here at Severna Park United Methodist Church. Our Music Ministry provides an excellent opportunity to offer and develop your musical talents, whether that means singing with a worship team, choir or small ensemble, playing an instrument or providing solos for worship or other special occasions. The Music Ministry also is a place of intentional support and spiritual growth, offering participants opportunities to eat, laugh, pray and share life together beyond the practice rooms and Sanctuary.

Worship Bands/Teams: SPUMC’s 9:30am Contemporary Service is led by a worship team each week. Singers and instrumentalists practice regularly (about 2x/month) and help lead worship in various configurations. If you sing or play guitar, bass, keys or drums we are always looking for new participants and back-ups.

Sanctuary Choir: A traditional adult choir that provides musical leadership for the 11am service 2-3 times a month with a varied repertoire (classical, spirituals, contemporary anthems and more) as well as cantatas and joint works with other churches. The Sanctuary Choir also performs larger choral works with orchestra and soloists.

Early Risers Choir: An informal choir that rehearses twice/month and sings about once/month at the 8am service.

Handbell Choir: Our handbell ringers rehearse 1-2x/month and provide music for our morning worship services on a regular basis, particularly during the Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas seasons.

Children’s Music: We offer fun and beginning musical groups for children from pre-K through elementary school. Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings and the children sing in worship about every other month. Additionally, our VBS kids sing each summer at a special service and children from the Severna Park UM Nursery School ring and sing several times a year, as well.

Instrumentalists: We regularly integrate and feature instrumental music in our morning worship services including flute, violin, oboe, cello, piano and more. If you play an instrument, we’d love to talk with you about sharing your talents!
