Sacred Worth Group
Sacred Worth is a safe space for LGBTQ+ persons, their families and allies who want to keep the conversation alive about how we can become a more welcoming church for ALL God’s children here at SPUMC. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm. You are invited to join us as we share stories, connections, resources, pain and hope together.
Some of our previous gatherings have included:
- Participants telling their own stories of living as an LGBTQ+ person or being the parent of an LGBTQ+ son or daughter in the church
- Reading and discussing UnClobber by Colby Martin to help us explore what the Bible does and doesn’t say about committed same gender relationships and human sexuality.
- Guest speaker Rev. Dr. Frank Trotter sharing his testimony of being a gay, pastor who served UMC congregations for 40 years and now does work for the Reconciling Ministries Network
- Watching and discussing the film, “For the Bible Tells Me So,” which explores the struggle and the hope within families and churches of accepting and supporting LGBTQ+ persons over the last 30 years
Contact Rev. Ron if you’d like to know more about the group.
