Honest to God: Praying the Psalms

There’s freedom in hitting bottom, in seeing that you won’t be able to save or rescue your daughter, her spouse, his parents, or your career, relief in admitting you’ve reached the place of great unknowing. This is where restoration can begin, because when you’re still in the state of trying to fix the unfixable, everything bad is engaged: the chatter of your mind, the tension of your physiology, all the trunks and wheel-ons you carry from the past.

It’s exhausting, crazy-making.

Help. Help us walk through this. Help us come through.

It is the first great prayer.

Honest to God: Praying the Psalms

During this series, we’ll be exploring the Psalms and what they can teach us about bringing our real, whole selves into the presence of God. Each Sunday we will look at the different kinds of prayers we find in the Psalms – prayers of lament, confession, disappointment, praise.

Praying the Psalms Daily

Each week during our Honest to God series, we’ll provide a few Psalms for you to pray during the weekHere are this week’s Psalms.

Unlock the Psalms

If you are looking to engage your kids in the Psalms, we recommend reading Psalms for Young Children by Marie-Helene Delval and Spark Story Bible Psalm Book: Prayers and Poems for Kids by Naomi J. Krueger. Both share the many different types of psalms rewritten in child friendly language with wonderful illustrations that we will be talking about in worship and classes over the next several weeks.

We also have coloring books available for the kids (& adults!) who experience God in creative outlets.
