Job Description:

5 hrs./week (Sunday, 7:45 am-12:00pm) Additional hours available (mostly weekday evenings)
The Nursery Care Provider & Coordinator will show love for our youngest children and help them become part of our congregational family by being a consistent presence in the church nursery. As a person of strong Christian character, the Nursery Care Provider & Coordinator will ensure that all children have a safe and warm experience in the SPUMC Nursery.

Covid-19 vaccination is required as well as masking depending on current Covid-19 levels.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ to 7 years of experience
  • Age Groups: Infant , Toddler , Preschool
  • High school degree
  • First Aid Training, CPR Training

While not required, infant CPR and First Aid training are valuable in this role.
All nursery care providers must complete our Safe Sanctuary background check process, be able to lift up to 25 lbs., change diapers, get up and down off the floor, and be welcoming to nursing mothers.
Providers must be 21 years or older.

Weekly Childcare Tasks
Be a consistent, loving presence in the nursery.
Arrive in the nursery ready to greet children 15 minutes before each service begins.
When serving during additional hours (for evening classes or special worship services), arrive 15 minutes before those activities begin.
Greet and get to know all families as they bring their children.
Utilize Breeze for registration, paging, and attendance. (Training provided)
Interact with the children.
Stress safety at all times, following all emergency protocols.

Coordinate Volunteers with Director of Children’s Ministries
Recruit weekly volunteers from among the parents using the Nursery.
Oversee and get to know weekly volunteers.
Submit volunteer list to the Director of Children’s Ministries to ensure that all volunteers complete the safe sanctuary process.
Find additional volunteers to assist with child care during special holidays and seasons that increase numbers in the Nursery (Advent, Palm Sunday, Easter).
Find volunteer coverage for vacation days.

Nursery Facilities
Ensure that the Nursery is cleaned up and tidy each week.
Disinfect toys and surfaces as needed.
Remove any dirty diapers to the dumpster each week.
Maintain equipment, toys, and supplies in the nursery:
Make suggestions about the need to remove worn furniture or toys.
Inform the Director of Children’s Ministry when supplies are needed.
